My Child is Trying out for a Select team for the First Time
by Jeff Bateson

Each year 1,000's of players will tryout for a select travel team for the first time. Higher-level soccer is a great way for soccer players to not only increase their soccer abilities, and possibly lead to exposure to even higher-level clubs/academies as well as colleges, but they can also gain extra coaching and experience that they may not have normally been exposed to. However, since players can be - and unfortunately are - cut from select teams based on their tryout performance(s), how can a parent help their child through the pressure and anxiety of these tryouts?

Here are some questions to consider speaking with your child about before, and during, the tryout process.
